Devido ao ocorrido, as transferências médicas previstas para ocorrer nesta segunda foram suspensas. Pacientes seriam levados de Gaza para ao Egito via Rafah. Além do prestador de serviço contratado, outros dois funcionários da OMS estavam no local durante o 'incidente de segurança', mas não ficaram feridos. Ghebreyesus lamentou o ocorrido e prestou condolências à família. O nome da vítima não foi divulgado. Segundo o diretor-geral, o caso está sendo investigado pelas autoridades competentes. "Somos profundamente gratos aos nossos colegas que trabalham dia e noite, apesar dos riscos, para garantir que o povo de Gaza tenha acesso aos cuidados de saúde de que necessita", publicou o diretor. Ainda não há previsão para a retomada das operações de transferências médicas. "Apelamos à proteção dos civis e dos trabalhadores humanitários. A paz é o melhor remédio", concluiu.
